Marketed as the story of how Sam and Dean's parents met, and set in 1972. It is narrated by Dean, and the last episode explains why that is only possible after the main series has finished.
Then what? Between those, seasons six through fifteen run straight on. Two episodes inside the main run are pilots for spin-offs that were never made, and one is a mostly animated Scooby-Doo crossover; all three are ordinary numbered episodes and are watched in place. The anime retells the first two seasons and is optional. The Winchesters goes last, not first.
