Where to start with Pet Sematary

Four films in two separate pairs, and the pairs do not connect. Release order walks you out of a 1992 sequel straight into a film that ignores it, so pick a line instead.

  1. 1
    Pet Sematary (1989) Pet Sematary

Stephen King wrote the screenplay himself and made shooting in Maine a condition of the sale, which is not true of any other film here. It is the version most people mean.

  2. 2
    Pet Sematary (2019) Pet Sematary

A second adaptation of the same novel rather than a sequel to anything, and it changes one large thing about the story on purpose. It needs nothing before it.

  3. 3
Pet Sematary: Bloodlines (2023) Pet Sematary: Bloodlines

Set in 1969 and following a young Jud Crandall, and it is a prequel to the 2019 film specifically. It only lands if you know who that character becomes in that version.

Then what? If you take the 1989 line, Pet Sematary Two follows it and is a direct sequel, though King disliked it enough to have his name removed. If you take the 2019 line, Bloodlines goes after the remake despite being set fifty years earlier. Do not interleave the two pairs; they share a novel and nothing else.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below — tick anything off in either place.

Your progress is saved on this device automatically. To carry it to another device, move the code below.

The code holds only this franchise. The link opens the tracker with your progress already filled in — good for showing someone where you're at. The image is a picture you can keep anywhere: scan the code on it with a phone, or drag the file back in below.

Drag a SagaList image here, or .

This reads the progress stored inside the picture, so nothing has to be retyped. If the image has been through a messaging app it may have been re-encoded and lost that — scan the code on it instead, or copy the code printed along the bottom.

Restoring replaces the progress currently saved on this device for the franchise the code belongs to.
