Re-Animator

On the data. Three things. Get the right cut of the first film. It was released unrated in the United States because the version that would have got a certificate was unreleasable, and the certificated cut removes a scene that is central to the film's reputation. Most home releases now carry the unrated version but not all streaming services do. Lovecraft hated the source. Herbert West–Reanimator was written in six parts for a small magazine that paid by the instalment, and he complained about having to recap the story every time. He considered it among his worst work. It is also, by a wide margin, his most adapted. Stuart Gordon and Jeffrey Combs went on to make several more Lovecraft films together, including From Beyond and Dagon. Those are separate films rather than part of this series, and anyone who likes this will like those. A fourth film has been announced repeatedly since the early 2000s, at one point with the title House of Re-Animator and a plot involving the American vice president. Stuart Gordon died in 2020. Treat it as unmade.
