Starship Troopers

One good film, four sequels of falling budget, and two animated series nobody expects.

Where to start with Starship Troopers

Watch the 1997 film. Everything after it is optional and most of it is a steep drop. The two animated series are not sequels and are better treated as separate things that share a book.

  1. 1
    Starship Troopers (1997) Starship Troopers

The one worth your time. Verhoeven made a film that looks like the propaganda it is mocking, which is why so many people in 1997 thought it meant what it was showing.

  2. 2
Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles (1999) Roughnecks: Starship Troopers Chronicles

If you want more and only more, this is the better of the two directions. Computer animated, told in arcs, and surprisingly serious.

  3. 3
Starship Troopers 3: Marauder (2008) Starship Troopers 3: Marauder

The only sequel that brings Casper Van Dien back, and the only one that tries to pick the satire back up. Skip the second entirely.

Then what? The two computer animated films from 2012 and 2017 are made in Japan and look nothing like the rest. The 1988 Japanese series predates the film and adapts the novel directly. None of them needs any of the others.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below: tick anything off in either place.

Everything you tick is saved in this browser and nowhere else. An account is the only way to put your list on another device, and the only way to get it back if this browser clears its storage. It is free and it takes an email address and a password.

Sign in on your phone, your laptop, anything, and the same list is there, kept in step as you tick. Nothing to copy, nothing to remember.

All three are about this franchise and all three are for showing, not moving. The link and the picture open SagaList with that progress displayed next to whatever the person opening it has already ticked. The code is what a friend pastes into Compare below. None of them writes anything into anybody's list.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.

Removes everything ticked here, in this browser. If you are signed in it clears on your other devices too. If you are not, there is no other copy and this cannot be undone.
