Tobe Hooper directing again thirteen years later and playing the whole thing as black comedy, which is not what anyone expects second. It leads into the only line that runs four films deep.
The alternative second film: it picks up minutes after 1974 and pretends nothing else was ever made. Watch it instead of the 1986 one if you want the shortest complete line.
Then what? From there, pick a line and finish it. The original runs 1974, 1986, 1990, 1995. The Texas Chainsaw 3D line runs 2017, 1974, 2013. The 2022 film is its own two-step, and the 2003 remake with its 2006 prequel is a closed pair you can watch on its own or skip entirely.
