Where to start with Psycho-Pass

This is a placement problem rather than a length problem. There are only about sixty hours here and nothing to skip, but five of the six films sit in gaps between seasons rather than after them, and the newest one is watched sixth. Below is the order the story happens in.

  1. 1
    Psycho-Pass, 22 episodes Psycho-Pass

The original series and the only entry that stands on its own. Everything after it assumes you know how the Sibyl System works and what happened to Kogami.

  2. 2
    Psycho-Pass 2, 11 episodes Psycho-Pass 2

Widely considered the weak one and still not skippable: the 2015 film and everything after it take its ending as read, and Akane is a different character coming out of it.

  3. 3
Psycho-Pass: The Movie Psycho-Pass: The Movie

Set two years after season 2 and the direct continuation of the main story. Season 3 makes very little sense without it, which is the trap people fall into.

  4. 4
Sinners of the System Case.1 Crime and Punishment Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System Case.1 Crime and Punishment

The first of three hour-long films made between the film and season 3. This one follows Unit 1 and is the closest to a normal episode of the series.

  5. 5
Sinners of the System Case.3 On the Other Side of Love and Hate Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System Case.3 On the Other Side of Love and Hate

Follows Kogami abroad after the 2015 film and sets up where he is by the time of Providence. Case.2 is deliberately not here; see the last step.

  6. 6
    Psycho-Pass: Providence Psycho-Pass: Providence

Released in 2023, ten years after the first season, but set in 2118 and belonging here. It covers the gap that season 3 is deliberately vague about.

  7. 7
    Psycho-Pass 3, 8 episodes Psycho-Pass 3

A new cast in the same city, eight episodes of about forty-five minutes each. It is roughly the length of a normal season and it stops without resolving anything.

  8. 8
    Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector

The actual end of season 3, released as a film because it is three episodes shown together. Without it season 3 has no ending at all.

  9. 9
Sinners of the System Case.2 First Guardian Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System Case.2 First Guardian

Chronologically the earliest thing here, set in 2112, but it is the backstory of a character who does not turn up until season 3, so it lands at the end rather than the front.

Then what? That is all of it, and there is no filler anywhere in the franchise. Extended Edition is season 1 recut into eleven longer episodes and adds nothing, so watch one or the other. A further Psycho-Pass project has been teased with no title, format or date, so nothing is listed for it.

A suggested way in, not an official one. The full list is below — tick anything off in either place.

Sync & backup

Your progress is saved on this device automatically. To carry it to another device, move the code below.

The code holds only this franchise. The link opens the tracker with your progress already filled in — good for showing someone where you're at. The image is a picture you can keep anywhere: scan the code on it with a phone, or drag the file back in below.

Drag a SagaList image here, or .

This reads the progress stored inside the picture, so nothing has to be retyped. If the image has been through a messaging app it may have been re-encoded and lost that — scan the code on it instead, or copy the code printed along the bottom.

Restoring replaces the progress currently saved on this device for the franchise the code belongs to.

Read only. This never changes what you have saved, and nothing leaves your browser. The code has to be their code for this same franchise: codes do not carry a name, so one from somewhere else may not be recognised as wrong.
